Auto’s zijn hoe langer hoe meer "computers op wielen" geworden. Terwijl de technologische innovaties zorgen voor een betere emissiecontrole en voor meer veiligheid en comfort, wordt onderhoud en reparaties van een voertuig een steeds grotere uitdaging. Zonder een eerlijke en volledige toegang tot de technische informatie, multi-brand diagnose apparatuur, reserveonderdelen en opleiding, zal de merkonafhankelijke automotive vervangingsmarkt niet langer in staat zijn om aan de 260 miljoen automobilisten in de EU het huidige kwaliteitsniveau en onderdelen te voorzien, waarop ze recht hebben in het kader van de nazorg van hun autos.
Heel wat locale en Europese beleidsmensen zijn onvoldoende op de hoogte van deze situatie en van de bijdrage die de merkonafhankelijke automotive vervangingsmarkt levert aan de economie en de samenleving binnen de EU.
Om de zichtbaarheid te verbeteren en de toekomst van deze vitale sector veilig te stellen, hebben de vervangingsmarkt en automobilistenvertegenwoordigers zich verenigd om niet alleen hun recht op reparatie te verdedigen – maar, belangrijker, ook het recht van de consument om hun voertuig te laten onderhouden in een werkplaats van hun keuze.
