Bilar har i större och större utsträckning blivit “datorer på hjul”. Medan teknologiska innovationer tillhandahåller en bättre avgasutsläppskontroll samt en ökad säkerhet och komfort, gör de också det svårare och svårare att utföra service eller reparationer på fordon. Utan tillgänglig och fullständig tillgång till teknisk information, felsökningsutrustning och testutrustning för multi-fabrikat, utbytesdelar och utbildning, kommer den oberoende fordonseftermarknaden inte längre att kunna tillgodose de 260 miljoner bilisterna i EU med den kvalitativa service och bildelar som de har rätt till i skötseln av sina fordon.
Många lokala och europeiska beslutstagare har mycket begränsad kännedom om dessa svårigheter samt det bidrag som den oberoende fordonseftermarknaden har på EUs ekonomi och samhälle.
För att förbättra möjligheterna och försäkra framtiden för denna vitalt viktiga sektor, har bilist- och eftermarknadsrepresentanter gått samman för att försvara, inte endast rätten att reparera – men ännu viktigare, konsumentens rätt att få bilen servad, underhållen och reparerad på verkstad enligt eget val.
